Pench National Park

Pench jungle safari

Pench National Park is in the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India. It is located in the Seoni district. This park is full of trees, plants, animals, and birds. The area is large and has different types of land like forests, grasslands, and small hills. There are many wild animals in Pench, including leopards, tigers, deer, and many birds. It is a quiet place with a lot of nature.

Pench National Park is very important for protecting animals and plants. Pench is one of the most well-known national parks. People from many parts of India and other countries visit Pench to see animals in their natural home. The park is also known for being a good place for nature lovers, photographers, and people who want to go on Pench jungle safaris.

Core Area Closed To Tourists

Every year, at the start of the rainy season, the core area of Pench National Park, which is the most important area for wildlife and habitat, closes to visitors. This year also, the core zone is closed until September 30. This decision is part of the park’s yearly rules for nature protection. The rainy season is crucial for the wild animals and the forest. Many animals breed and rest during this time. The rain helps trees and plants grow better.

The core area is the main place where most of the wild animals stay. This area has the best conditions for animals to live safely and without fear. Because of this, the government and park officials take more care of this zone. Tourists are not allowed here from July to September because too many vehicles and people can disturb the animals. This break helps animals move freely and live peacefully without being seen by tourists.

Tourists Came Before The Closing

Before the core zone was closed, many tourists came to visit the park. On the last day before the closure, which was a Monday, many people reached the park's main entry gates — Turiya and Karmajhiri. These gates are used by tourists to enter the park for safaris. Some tourists came from nearby places in India, and some came from other countries. They all wanted to enjoy one last Pench jungle safari before the core area was closed.

However, their visit was not very enjoyable because it rained a lot that day. The heavy rain made it difficult for safari vehicles to move properly. Some roads inside the park were slippery or full of water. Due to bad weather, animals were not easily visible. Most of the animals stayed hidden inside the forest to avoid the rain. The rain also reduced visibility, which made it hard for people to take photos or spot animals clearly.

Safari Now Only In Buffer Zone

Now that the core area is closed, tourists can only go on safaris in the buffer zone. The buffer zone is the surrounding zone of the core zone. It acts like a border between the forest and the villages. Even though it is not as rich in wildlife as the core area, tourists can still see some animals here. Safaris in the buffer zone are still running during the rainy season.

Tourists visiting the buffer zone can expect to see animals like deer, monkeys, wild boars, and some birds. Sometimes, tigers and leopards also come into the buffer area from the core zone. The forest is still beautiful, and people can enjoy the greenery and peaceful nature. Tour operators and forest guides continue to help tourists during these months, although they also take care to avoid any harm to the animals or the forest.

Work Will Be Done During Closing Time

Even though tourists are not allowed in the core area during the rainy season, the forest department and staff remain busy. This is the time when they do important work inside the park. First, they increase patrolling in the park to stop illegal activities like animal hunting or tree cutting. Forest guards check different areas regularly to make sure animals are safe.

The rain often damages the roads and paths inside the park. So, during this time, the park staff repair roads and clear blocked paths. They also fix water holes and ponds that are important for animals to drink water. Park workers also clean areas and remove waste if needed.

The staff also take this time to look after the plants. They make sure the forest is growing well and that new plants are being taken care of. They study the movement of animals and collect information that helps in managing the park better. This behind-the-scenes work helps keep the park clean, safe, and ready for tourists when it opens again in October.

Tourist Numbers Are Growing

In the last five years, more and more people have started visiting Pench National Park. This shows that the park is becoming more popular among tourists. This park was visited by almost 1.03 lakh Indian tourists in 2020-21. Also, 190 foreign tourists came that year. But in 2024–25, the number grew a lot. Around 13,127 foreign visitors and 1.71 lakh Indians visited Pench.

This total number of tourists demonstrates that an increasing number of people are interested in nature and wildlife. It also shows that the government and park management have made the park better for visitors. Pench jungle safari vehicles, Roads, lodges, and guides have all improved. More people are hearing about the park through websites, social media, and travel videos. Because of all this, Pench is now one of the top choices for people who want to enjoy wildlife safaris and nature trips in India.

Popular actor Amitabh Bachchan, famous cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, and former cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin have all been to Pench. These celebrities came to enjoy nature and see wild animals in their natural habitat.
