Pench National Park's history dates back to 1965 when this park was a sanctuary with an area of 757.85 sq. km.

Later in 1983, it was declared a national park.

The Government of India declared the whole area a Tiger Reserve in 1992 to protect the remaining population of tigers.

“The Jungle Book” which was written by Rudyard Kipling is a famous movie. It was inspired by the one and only Pench National Park.

Pench National Park is a famous place that is named after the river- Pench, which while flowing from north to south, divides the national park into almost equal halves namely eastern and western halves.

An additional area of 257 sq. km of this wild park is located in Maharashtra but is also accessible from Madhya Pradesh. People call it Pench National Park (Maharashtra).

This famous wild place has its area segregated into two divisions- a) Priyadarshini National Park and Mowgli Pench Sanctuary which covers an area of 299 sq. km and b) 464 sq. km which is considered as the buffer area.

Pench National Park is a beautiful place that is home to various flora species like Mahua, White Kulu, Salai, Saja, Bijiyasal, Dhaora, Amaltas, etc.
Pench National Park is also home to different wildlife species. In this wild park, you can spot animals like Bengal Tigers, Chital, Jungle Cat, Wolf, Indian Leopard, Gaur, Four-horned Antelope, Sloth Bear, and others. Also, birds like Crow Pheasant, Peafowl, Pintail, Lesser Whistling Teal, Indian Roller, Wagtail, Munia, Waterfowl, Blue Kingfisher, Crimson-Breasted Barbet, Red-Vented Bulbul can be found here.

  • Pench National Park is a wild place that has a total area of 758 sq km, out of which 299 sq km is covered by Priyadarshini Pench National Park and Mowgli Pench Sanctuary. The remaining area is 464 sq km and it is the buffer area.
  • This huge park is also an abode of the Tigers and because of this, the park has been included under Project Tiger and hence is a tiger reserve since 1992. Basically, Project Tiger is an initiative that the Government of India started to protect and conserve tigers.
  • The major part of this national park is in the Seoni and Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh but the park also shares a part of Maharashtra. There is an area of 257 sq km that lies in Maharashtra but that area is accessible from Madhya Pradesh.
  • The BBC found Pench National Park as the most appropriate location for documenting the behavior of tigers. Back in 2008, dubbed by Sir David Attenborough, they released the documentary titled "Spy In The Jungle." After that release, tourism boomed here.
  • One thing that everyone should know about this park is that the classic "The Jungle Book" written by Rudyard Kipling was inspired by Pench National Park.
  • Pench National Park is home to a good population and a variety of species of flora and fauna.

This park is home to a wide range of wild animals such as tigers, leopards, hyenas, wolves, jungle cats, wild boars, Black-naped hares, Bison, Langour Nilgai, Porcupine, Sambar, barking deer, and many more.

This park is home to about 300 species of birds such as Waterfowl, Pintail, Peafowl, Indian Roller, Munia, Crow Pheasant, Pintail, Blue Kingfisher, Red-Vented Bulbul, Crimson-Breasted Berbet, etc. Not only birds, you can also find 50 types of fish, 45 types of butterflies, 10 kinds of amphibians, 54 moths, 30 reptiles, and lots of different insects.

Park is covered with mesmerizing climbers and nice-looking shrubs. You can find beautiful shady trees here such as Amaltas, Palash, Teak, Bija, Mahua, etc. Ayurveda herbs including curcumin, sarpagandha, ashwagandha, etc can also be found. There are many water spots connected here, surrounded by big groups of beautiful bamboo grass.

PENCH NATIONAL PARK RULES

  • It is compulsory for every tourist to take an authorized park guide when going inside the park.
  • You must obey the park guide if you want a memorable safari ride.
  • Lifting of any forest produce, plant, or animal article inside the protected area is prohibited.
  • Please do not get out of the vehicle until the park guide has asked you to as it can be dangerous.
  • Try to enjoy the ride without causing noise using a transistor, tape recorder, or blowing horn, or any similar equipment in the protected area. It is prohibited.
  • Teasing, feeding, or chasing wild animals inside the park's premises is prohibited.
  • The speed limit of every vehicle is 20 km/h to ensure the safety of animals. In case your driver speeds the vehicle, inform the park management.
  • The use of polythene and also littering is prohibited in the park.
  • Carrying arms and ammunition is prohibited inside this wild protected area.
  • Maintain silence during safari. Shouting, misconduct, and indiscipline in this wild protected area is prohibited.
  • Before entering the protected area, read the rules written on the signboards at the entry gates.
