17-Year-Old Tigress T-20 Of Pench National Park

T-20 is a very special tigress who resides within the boundaries of Madhya Pradesh. She is found within the Pench National Park & is the oldest known tigress within Madhya Pradesh, with an approximate age of 17 years & 7 months. This national park has gained popularity for its high-density forest, availability of prey, & tigers. It is known that T-20 was born in May 2008 & has lived her entire lifespan within this forest.

Over time, she has witnessed a growing number of tourists, forest protection, & tigers. Recently, she was spotted by forest staff & tourists within the tourism zones of the national park, & everyone was thrilled to see her. T-20 has also made significant contributions to tiger conservation within Madhya Pradesh throughout her lifespan & by having cubs. She has been a great example of wildlife conservation.

Why She Is Called Langdi Tigress

T-20 is also known as PN-20 in official forest department records. However, among local safari guides, drivers, & tourists, she is more commonly known as the “Langdi Tigress.” This name comes from the way she walks. Her walking style is different because of her front legs.

One of her legs does not move in a normal way. Because of this, she walks with a slight limp. This condition has been seen for many years & did not happen recently. Even with this problem, she walks calmly & with confidence. She does not appear afraid or weak while moving inside her territory.

Because of her unique walk, people can easily recognize her during a Pench jungle safari. Many guides identify her quickly just by looking at her movement. Over time, this physical condition became part of her identity, & the name “Langdi Tigress” became very popular among people visiting Pench National Park.

T-20 mostly stays in the Karmajhiri range of Pench National Park. About 70 percent of this area is part of her regular movement zone. This shows that she knows her territory very well & has lived there for many years. Forest officials believe that she feels safe & comfortable in this area.

Recently, she was seen near Nala Talab, which is inside the tourist zone of Pench National Park. This sighting confirmed that she is still active & living in the same region that she has controlled for a long time. Her continued presence in this area shows her strong attachment to her territory & her ability to survive even in old age.

Relation With Collarwali Tigress

T-20 has a very important family connection that makes her even more special. She is the sister of the famous Collarwali Tigress. Collarwali Tigress is one of the most well-known tigers in Pench National Park & is remembered for giving birth to a very large number of cubs during her lifetime.

Both sisters played a major role in increasing the tiger population of Pench National Park. Collarwali Tigress became very famous because she was often seen during the Pench jungle safari & because she gave birth to many cubs successfully. T-20 was not seen as often, but her role in conservation has been equally important.

Together, these two tigresses created a strong & healthy bloodline. Their cubs spread across different parts of Pench National Park & also moved into nearby forest areas. This helped maintain a balanced & stable tiger population in the region.

The success of these two sisters shows that the forest management of Pench National Park has been effective for many years. It also shows that anti-poaching measures, habitat protection, & prey availability have been strong. Even today, the influence of this family line can be seen in the current tiger population of the park.

Contribution To The Tiger Population In Madhya Pradesh

One of the most important parts of T-20’s life is her role as a mother. During her lifetime, she gave birth to a total of 10 cubs. All of her cubs survived to adulthood, which is very rare in the wild. Many cubs usually die due to fights, lack of food, or other dangers.

After growing up, her cubs slowly moved away from her territory. They created their own territories inside Pench National Park & also in nearby forest corridors. This movement helped spread the tiger population over a larger area & reduced pressure inside the main forest.

As her cubs settled in new areas, the tiger population increased naturally. This helped maintain balance between predators & prey. Her offspring became part of the natural tiger hierarchy & contributed to the strength of the ecosystem.

Her contribution strongly supports Madhya Pradesh’s title as the “Tiger State of India.” According to the 2022 tiger census, Pench National Park recorded 123 tigers, not including small cubs. This number shows a clear increase compared to earlier years.

Recent monitoring shows that more tigers are now being seen in buffer zones outside the core area. This usually happens when the main forest becomes full. Younger tigers move out to find a new space. This movement is a positive sign of a healthy population.

Present Health Condition Of T-20

Because of her old age, T-20’s physical strength has reduced. At more than 17 years old, she is very old for a wild tigress. Her body is weaker compared to her younger days, & her hunting ability has decreased.

She no longer hunts large animals like adult deer or wild boar actively. Instead, she chooses easier food options. Many times, she feeds on leftover prey killed by other tigers or leopards. Sometimes, she hunts smaller animals that do not require much energy.

This change in behavior helps her save strength & avoid injury. Forest officials regularly monitor her health & movement. So far, she has managed to survive without human help.

Even with her weakness, she continues to live freely in Pench National Park. Very few wild tigresses reach this age naturally. Her survival shows strong conservation efforts, good prey availability, & a safe forest environment.

Average Lifespan Of Tigers

In the wild, tigers usually live between 12 & 15 years. Many factors affect their life, such as fights with other tigers, injuries, food shortages, & environmental problems. Female tigers face extra stress because of pregnancy & raising cubs.

In zoos & protected parks, tigers can live longer, usually between 20 & 25 years. This is because they get regular food, medical care, & protection.

T-20 has lived beyond the normal wild lifespan. At 17 years & 7 months, she is one of the oldest known wild tigresses in this region. Her long life shows her ability to adjust & the stable conditions inside Pench National Park.

Her story continues to inspire forest officials, conservationists, & tourists who visit for a Pench jungle safari. She remains a strong example of successful wildlife protection & long-term conservation planning
